Windows 7: How to Add a “Select All” Button to Windows Explorer

[ 0 ] August 30, 2012 |

If you open Windows Explorer in Windows 7, by default there is a toolbar sitting between the navigation and search, and the sidebar and file listings in Windows Explorer. It contains items such as Organize, Open, Share With or New Folder. Windows 7 does not include a Select All button in Windows Explorer.

This tutorial will show you how to add a “Select All” button (or other custom buttons like Copy, Delete, Paste, etc) to the Windows Explorer Toolbar. We will need a small utility called CustomExplorerToolbar to remedy this. CustomExplorerToolbar is small utility for Windows 7 only, which allows you to easily customize the toolbar of Windows Explorer, and add buttons that were existed in previous versions of Windows, like Copy, Cut, Paste, Select All, and more. This utility also allows you to remove the toolbar buttons that you previously added.

After you download CustomExplorerToolbar from nirsoft.net, open the .zip file and extract the files to any folder on your drive. Double-click CustomExplorerToolbar.exe. You will notice that everything is configured on one screen. A list of available buttons has been placed prominently in the interface.

In this tutorial I want to add “Cut”, “Paste” and “Select all” buttons to Windows Explorer. So I place a check next to each feature I want to add. Then place a check in all of the Folder Types: fields. Finally, click the Do It! button.

If you have a Windows Explorer window open, please close it. Open your Windows Explorer again, you will notice that “Select All” button has been added in the toolbar.

If you want to remove the toolbar buttons that you previously added, run CustomExplorerToolbar again. In the Action field, please select “Remove specified toolbar buttons” from the drop down menu.
